A group of teen girls, all under the age of 16, in Massachusetts has made a "pact" to get pregnant and raise their kids together. If you haven't read the story yet, my blog title links to it.
Are they FREAKIN' crazy? What has this world seriously come to?
If I was the mother of a daughter I would be totally freaked out right now. Heck, I have no kids and I'm totally freaked out about this. Are these kinds of pacts happening in all schools?
I totally know and understand that accidents happen, but to purposely go out looking to get pregnant, at 16, is totally absurd!!!!!!
The big dilemma/fight at the school now is whether or not the school should be allowed to make contraceptives readily available to its students. I for one think it's the responsibility of the parent to teach their children about "safe" sex and the consequences that arise if you are irresponsible in your decision making. I'm also thinking that someone should have told the girls that having sex with a 24 year old homeless man isn't the safest thing, even if you were only using him to get pregnant, and, though, you may become pregnant, so many other potential hazards are possible. I'm just sayin'.....
To all you parents out there, I hope stories like this open your eyes to the craziness out there and that you sit down and talk to your children. I know talking to them isn't going to stop them from having sex, but maybe borrowing an infant for a week and forcing your child to be it's "guardian" will be birth control in itself.
